CANNICH WEEKEND 24-26 APRIL 2009
Munros, Corbetts, Grahams, Marilyns, bumps, boats, tracks, paths, bogs, to this beautiful part of the country.
Excellent accommodation was in a one year old hostel, 3 rooms, each with up to 8 beds, and en-suite. A large dining room with kitchen off was in a separate modern block.
Laurence, Craig, Billy, Kevin, Dave, Koon, Eileen, Donald, Alan, Fraser, Jimmy, Stuart, Malcolm, all arrived at different times of Friday, via different routes and hills. Weather was kind with mainly good views, and almost all dry conditions. We all used the excellent facilities at Bearnock to prepare and eat Friday's evening meal, with the odd glass of wine, beer, and malt. A few explored the local hostelry about 15 minutes walk away.
Saturday was boat day for some, with many miles walked (some much further than others) and many hills climbed. Special mention goes to Stuart who passed the 200 Munro mark. The low clouds took until lunch time to clear, so mainly good views were had in the afternoon. There were many tired bodies on Saturday evening, but some still managed a further visit to the pub. Laurence meanwhile was being served a 4 course dinner at the Maple Court Hotel in Inverness (Mum's 90th birthday), before returning to enjoy the snores and country air of the hostel.
Sunday started off brightly but later clouded over, with rain in some areas. All set off for different challenges, and hopefully a safe return home (no reports of any stragglers yet!)
An excellent weekend.
