LOCH TAY CORBETTS 17 MAY 2009

Car Park at 7am:
Noelle with Ian G, Thomas Matthews (first outing with club) and Billy.
Kevin, Fraser and Dave K with Radley.

Later the same day: Allan C and Derek H by car and bikes.

Arrived at Ardtalnaig after 1˝ hours driving including a very slow bit along Loch Tay side and headed up the hill at 9.15am. After about a half km and 150m ascent we picked up the excellent track leading directly to the col south of Beinn Bhreac. Shortly after this Dave K and Billy decided to push ahead to the col aiming to do both Corbetts.
The rest of the party were undecided and were being tempted by Fraser's stories about the Graham, Shee of Ardtalnaig /Ciste Buide a' Claidheimh (yellow kist of the sword). We five headed off the track onto easy ground to the ridge leading to Beinn Bhreac trig point (10.52am.) Despite the forecast the weather was constant sunshine and warm until we reached the ridge and felt the cooling SE wind, actually very cooling (gloves hats balaclavas) at least it saved us from being sunburnt!   We continued south through the peat hags onto Creagan na Beinne 888m at approx. 12.30pm. Perfect visibility 360o. Excellent shelter provided by a wee crag for sandwiches just about 50m south of the summit.

We headed due south for Dunan by River Almond and dallied counting lizards and enjoying the heat of the sun sheltered from the wind.  By this time we had all decided to leave Creag Uchdag to share with Allan on his day so a lengthy break was taken by the track and we rested and admired the hill we had just done. Eventually, we got moving again and headed up Shee of Ardtalnaig (759m) encouraged by Fraser's promise of an amazing sight. We reached the top about half two and Fraser searched till he found his wondrous feature & a devil's cleft to match the Whangie or better!
A great place for another snack break, wee rest, sunbathe.

Then time to head home, back at the cars by 4.40pm with Dave and Billy arriving shortly after us, having ascended Creagan na Beinne then, via Meall Mor to Creag Uchdag all at a great pace!  And all in brilliant sunshine right to the end of the walk.

We found a lovely posh hotel at Ardeonaig for a beer, just our style, Merv!

All back in Milngavie shortly after 7pm. Another great day on the hills.

Allan reported on his day with Derek H on their bikes. Great to see you back in action Derek!

"We cycled from Lochearnhead to Killin & back.  The cycle track was built by Sustrans and is an excellent ride along an old railway in Glen Ogle.  Easy cycling on gentle slopes.
Weather was warm & sunny.  A few pints in the sunshine outside The Falls of Dochart Hotel, Killin & a mostly downhill freewheel to the car.  We returned home just before it started raining."
