STOB GHABHAR 15 MARCH 2009

2 cars left Milngavie, Ian with Noelle and Sean; Koon with Laurence A and Laurence D. Weather was reasonable with scattered clouds, with some high winds forecast.

The original hope was that we could take in a snow filled gulley to the north of Stob Ghabhar but rain during the week spoilt that one. SAIS forecast was also not good.

We set off from Forest Lodge at 9.00am, taking the track to the university hut before turning up Allt Toaig. Where the track splits we took the decision to climb Stob a' Choire Odhair, and depending on conditions and how we felt, perhaps go onto Stob Ghabhar. A steep climb up a zig zag path on the south ridge took us to Beinn Toaig and then to the summit of Stob a' Choire Odhair, for 11.00am. By this time the forecasted high winds blasted over the summit making it difficult to stand, walk, and communicate (my excuse for later).

Lunch was had, and Ian, Noelle, Koon, and Laurence D decided to return via the same route to avoid exposure to the wind. Laurence A and Sean headed down to the bealach, where Laurence A returned via the valley to the car, while Sean took in Stob Ghabhar.

The early party enjoyed the Bridge of Orchy bar awaiting the other two, with all home to Milngavie by 6.30pm.

I have glossed over the odd misunderstanding or two which separated the parties, suffice to say it was another eventful day out for MMC.  We all enjoyed our day and returned home safely.
